Day 18 in Playa San Diego, Nicaragua

6:00 am-

The little bird was back this morning but not as bad as the previous morning. I was able to sleep through it today.

8:00 am-

The kid got up and rush us up for breakfast. They thought they were dying of hunger. We got up and packed up everything for a new city today. We drove to Garden Cafe and enjoyed our breakfast. The kids had pancakes and smoothies. Ben had a grilled panini sandwich and I had a B.L.A.T. with fresh fruit. It was a very filling breakfast.

11:00 am-

We drove around the city sightseeing and then headed to Laguna de Apoyo, where the water was supposed to be clear and warm. GPS took us the long way, normally it should have been a 15 minute drive instead it was a one hour drive. We still never actually made it to the laguna. We could not find the public access area. So we decided to head to this little beach hut I have been dying to stay at. It should have been a 2 hour drive instead it turned into the drive from hell.

Bens thoughts on the ride-

Today was crazy... So gps takes us to the road from hell to get to our next house we are staying at that was originally supposed to be a 2 hr drive. Wound up taking 6 hours. Looking back i wish we had pictures to show you guys how insane this was. We didn't have cameras on our mind. Only getting out of there before dark. So gps takes us down this narrow road. Narrow enough where you can't turn around. The road started getting pretty bad. We proceeded thinking it couldn't possibly get worse. Then this one downhill slope was the point of no return as our car would never make it back up the hill. As far as we could see after that the road seemed good to go. So we went down the crazy hill with questionable pits and wash outs where the car would be stuck if we fell in. We made it down. Then we drove a while longer and it got wayyyy worse. We already knew the car couldn't go back so we were screwed. In the middle of freaking nowhere... We saw no white people pretty much the whole day. Now there were no people period... I had to start making tire paths with big rocks to eliminate drop offs. If the car fell off those rocks then the car would be bottomed out on the frame. A guy came along walking his 2 bulls and 2 cows. He tried to help us but thought we were nuts for sure. He said the car would not make it. No cars here he said. Only horses. But obviously we had no option but to continue. Made sooo many paths out of rocks as thing was about a 3 hour event. Sliding downhill in mud, crossing over drop offs with rocks, and truing to haul ass up hill to make it up the hills or through holes with water in them. Literally the craziest event ever... In a Toyota Yaris... I wouldn't of tried that in a 4x4 jeep if i knew how bad it was. When we got through it finally it was almost dark. Freaking crazy day in Nicaragua.

6:30 pm-

We finally arrived at the beach hut, it's exactly what I was hoping for. I then cooked dinner and had showers. Getting a good nights rest from this stressful day so we can enjoy the beach and relax over the next two days.

I wasn't able to take very many pictures today, so I will make up for it tomorrow.
