Day 17 in Granada, Nicaragua

5:15 am-

We had a crazy bird outside our door that woke me and Ben up. The bird would not stop chirping and pushing the door. It went some thing like this, "chirppppppp tap tap chirppppppp flutter tap tap flutter chirpppppp" for 2.5 hours!!!! We tried to let the bird in thinking maybe it had a nest or something inside but it would just fly away when we opened the door. Ben gave it a granola bar thinking it was hungry but it didn't help either. The bird was frantically flying into the glass and chirping extremely loud. It was impossible to sleep. We would doze off and he would come back. Ben even tried to catch the bird but that didn't work. We eventually gave up and just tried to sleep through it. The bird woke up the kids around 7:30 am, we were all so tired but he wouldn't stop. So we got up and started our day.

9:00 am-

We walked around looking for a grocery to grab a box of granola bars for breakfast but we noticed this little shop with batidos (smoothies) for like $2. We went inside and ordered everyone a smoothie.  Brandt ordered banana and watermelon with milk. Chloe got strawberry and banana with milk. Cali tried everybody's and like mine best, so she got mango and banana with milk. Ben got papaya and strawberry with orange juice. They were all delicious including Brandt's weird one. Ben got a crepe for all the kids to try, they loved it. We headed to the Chocomueso (chocolate museum) to sign up for the tour.

We got there at the perfect time, they had a class just about to start. We all had to put on aprons and followed them to the cacao tree. We were taught all of the steps of cacao beans. The kids got to roast the beans, peel the beans, and mash to beans to make chocolate bars. The kids had a blast mixing all the things they wanted in their chocolate bar. We all got to try a hot chocolate drink too. It was slightly bitter but still very delicious. Kenney was our tour guide and we highly recommend him to anyone that would go to this tour, he had everyone laughing the entire tour and made it very enjoyable for the kids.

1:00 pm-

We had to find something to do while the chocolate set for an hour. We walked down the street and found Taco Stop, we all ordered quesadillas. The kids were happy with "good food" as they say. We hung out there until it was time to pick up the chocolate. The kids loved having their own personal chocolate bar.

2:30 pm-

We had a local insist on showing us around a few places in the city. He brought us to a art gallery, a museum, and a big church.

4:00 pm-

We went back to the hotel for a couple of hours. The kids and me played cards and Ben handled some work things.

6:30 pm-

We headed back into the city looking for dinner. We stopped at Telepizza and had a very cheap dinner, the total was $15. The pizza was very good too. We walked around the city some more, and Ben had a young boy ask him to purchase him an ice cream (so he did). We walked around for 30-45 minutes until a bird decided to ruin our night. Needless to say I had to go back to the hotel and wash my hair. It very hard to shower when you have very low water pressure, it took double the time to bathe all the kids and wash their hair. The water pressure changes a lot in Nicaragua.

Tomorrow will be another exploring day of Granada. Maybe a city tour or horse and carriage ride. I guess we will have to wait and see.
